The Contents
Inside of the Verifone Vx520 box you will find your terminal, power cord, and phone line (if applicable).
Inside of the Ingenico box you will find your terminal, power cord, and the magic box where the ETH or phone line will be plugged into.
The Connection
Verifone Vx520
ETH Connection: Plug the CAT 5 cord into the back of the terminal where it says ETH. Then plug the other end directly into your modem or router.
Dial Connection: Plug the phone line into the port on the back of the terminal where the phone picture is displayed. Please be sure to have the terminal set up with it’s own dedicated phone line.
Ingenico
ETH Connection: Plug the Cat 5 cord into the ETH label on the box connected to the terminal.
Dial Connection: Plug the phone cord into the phone picture on the box connected to the terminal. Be sure to plug the telephone cable into the telephone wall socket before switching on the power.
The Power
Verifone Vx520
First, plug the power cable into your terminal to power on the Verifone Vx520.
Once the Verifone Vx520 is powered on you will come to a screen with three options:
- Credit/Debit
- CommServer
- EMA
Select Credit/Debit and this will take you to the sales screen.
WARNING: If you have a pin pad please plug the pin pad into the terminal BEFORE plugging the terminal into the power source. Plugging in the pin pad to a powered up terminal can damage the encryption in the pin pad.
Ingenico
Connect the power cord to the magic box. There is a round port on the opposite side of the ETH and phone ports to connect the power cord into. Connect the other end of the power box into the wall outlet.
The Set Up
Verify the Date and Time on the terminal is correct. The time will be in military time (see chart below). If you need assistance on how to update the date and time on your Verifone please go here.
The First Transaction on a Verifone Vx520
Once the terminal is connected you are ready to run your first transaction!
- From the main screen select Sale (F2).
- Enter in the amount and select the green key.
- The customer will be prompted to tap, insert, swipe their card
- Insert chip card or swipe.
- If it is a debit transaction the screen will prompt Visa or MasterCard Debit or US Debit.
- If US Debit is selected they will be prompted to enter their PIN.
- The terminal will then communicate with the host.
- If the transaction is successful the receipt will print.
The First Transaction on an Ingenico
Once the terminal is connected you are ready to run your first transaction!
- Select #1 or the green key to start the sale.
- From the Main Menu, select Sale.
- Select Credit or Debit.
- Enter the sale amount.
- Insert/swipe/key/ or tap the credit card.
- The terminal will connect with the host.
- If the transaction is successful the receipt will print.
